DFS target issues

Hi so i have two servers running dfs same target folders eg. \servername\location1, \servername\location2 ever since we dcpromod our in region domain controllers, clients seems to select the worst target possible OR they pick their closest one ie the branch/subnet they reside in, and the other share, picks the server furthest away ADSS seems intact, the subnet belongs to the site where the DC is, in another region... i am really perplexed by this, i thought it looks at the client ip to decide on the nearest target, but at the moment its a mess.

so it looks like after cleaning up ADSS and attaching the subnets to the one site (where my dcs are) i actually created the problem, because it uses random referrals because they are in the same cost with the same site

i did this because we dcpromed local domain controllers.

i reattached back the subnets to their respective sites . dfsutil /pktflush and spcflush on my test machine, and wallah it started selecting local target

it was all good once the other clients effected rebooted..

    Hi,

If may caused by the closest target not available.

If you want the clients to select the targets within the same site, try to configure it by:
Right click the DFS-N name and select the properties >reference:
    70375-2221.jpg
select the option exclude targets outside of the client's site.

Wait for t the replication and then check the result.

    Best Regards.
