How to give VMs created from a specialized image in a Scale Set unique hostnames?

I have a very complicated VM setup and would take a lot of effort to generalize etc. I want to use in a Scale Set. Trouble is the server software that accesses each VM in the Scale Set gets confused by them all having the same hostname. Is there a way to assign unique hostnames to each VM in a Scale Set when using specialized images?

@Geordie_MSFTE , thank you for reaching out to us! Happy to help. AFAIK, you cannot change hostnames for each VM in VMSS, but you can only change computerNamePrefix which will reflect for all the VMs in VMSS.

Do check out this article for ways to refer a VM instance in VMSS: Figuring out Azure VM scale set machine names. Can you use vmId property of the VMSS VM? - it is an Azure VM unique ID.
