What can i do about it ;to free up my disk space. My pc has also been crashing frequently after I noticed this irregular number of 'service host' running on my pc. My pc has become extremely slow this past days.Is service host responsible for all this issues ,if not how can I fix this problem.

    Hi Moelingtag

My name is Andre Da Costa; an Independent Consultant, Windows Insider MVP and Windows & Devices for IT MVP. I'm here to help you with your problem.

You appear to be on an older version of Windows 10. I would try upgrading to the newer Windows 10 1809 release to see if it resolves this issue.

What is the exact make and model?

    Open Start, type: system information

    Hit Enter

    Click System summary

    Look in the right pane

Copy the system sku info into reply here.

    See example: https://imgur.com/qzektpA

Download the Media Creation Tool Now

    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=691209

Right click the MediaCreationTool.exe file then click Run as administrator.

Accept the End User License Agreement:

Select the option Upgrade this PC now if you want to upgrade right away,

    Click Next

Accept the End User License Agreement.

Wait while Windows 10 setup does one final check to ensure your system is ready.

Windows 10 setup will check if you have enough disk space. If you don’t, review the following article for instructions how to upgrade to Windows 10 Anniversary Update on a system with limited space:

Please note, you have the option of choosing what you would like to keep, which includes personal files, apps and settings.

If you want to perform a new install or just keep your files click Change what to keep. Once you have chosen the desired options, click Install to begin.

This will be your screen for a little while. During the installation, your computer will restart several times.

After the first restart, Windows 10 setup will resume. You will notice the setup experience has once again been refined from the previous animated circle. This will be your screen for a while. When complete, Windows 10 setup will restart automatically.

    Sign into your account.

Wait while Windows 10 completes application updates and post setup tasks.

That’s it, the Windows 10 Creators Update is installed. You can check Windows Update for latest updates, click Start > Settings > Update & security > Windows Update > Check for Updates.

How to prepare your computer before upgrading?

Although updating to Windows 10 version 1803 to 1809 or 1903 is a relatively simple process, similar to a repair upgrade; users should perform some basic pre-requisites before initiating the upgrade.

If you are finding it difficult to carry out some of the steps described below, please review detailed instructions how to perform them:

    https://www.groovypost.com/howto/prepare-comput...

If the problem still persists after the upgrade.

I would first check Windows Update and make sure any pending cumulative updates are actually being installed succesfully.

Go to Start -> Settings -> Update & security, then Check for updates and install any available updates.

Other things you can also check include:

Look for blank icons on the desktop and delete them.

    Open File Explorer

    Open This PC

Right click your local drive where Windows 10 is install (you will see the Windows logo on it)

    Click Properties

    Click the Hardware tab

What is the name of the drive listed?

    Is it an SSD?

If it is, you might need to update the firmware.

Open Start > Settings > Privacy > Background apps

    Disable all Background apps.

    Disabling Windows Update:

    Press Windows key + R

    Type: services.msc

    Hit Enter

    Scroll down to Windows Update

Select it then right click it

    Click Properties

Under the General tab, choose Startup type to Disabled

    Click Stop

    Click Apply then OK

Also, check whats starting up with Windows.

    Press Windows key + X

    Click Task Manager

    Click Startup tab

    Disable all except Windows Defender.

    Press Windows key + R

    Type: msconfig

    Hit Enter

    Go to the services tab

    Check the box,

    hide all Microsoft services

    Disable the remaining services

    Click Apply then OK

    Restart if prompted

    Open Start, type: problem reports

    Hit Enter

Delete any failed or pending reports.

Go to Start > Settings > System > Notifications and actions > Turn off "Show me tips about Windows."

If you have Chrome installed, uninstall then reinstall it.

    Open Start, type: CMD

    Right click CMD

    Click Run as administrator

    Type: powercfg -restoredefaultschemes

    Hit Enter

    Exit

Create an entirely new account and delete the current one.

Click Start > Settings > Privacy > Feedback and diagnostics.

    Set it to basic

    Click Start

    Type: regedit

    Navigate to the following key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\DataCollection.

Right click and create a DWORD value named AllowTelemetry then set

    Press Windows key + R

    Type gpedit.msc then hit Enter

    Hi Moelingtag

No, SvcHost is not actually using your hard drive at all . . .

It is normal in Windows 10 to have maybe 70 - 80 versions of SvcHost running, those however use very little hardware resources . .

Open Device Manager (accessible by right clicking your Start Button)

    Expand the IDE ATA/ATAPI section

Right click the device you will find in there and choose Uninstall

Then restart your PC, is your Disk usage still high?
