Got Blue Screen Error After Installing Python 3.7 With "Add Python 3.7 to PATH" Option Checked

Today I installed Python 3.7 with these two options checked in installation wizard.

(1) Add Python 3.7 to PATH  (2) Install for all users.

After installing when I restart my PC, got the blue screen error "DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION". After that, I reinstall Python 3.7 With "Add Python 3.7 to PATH" unchecked. Then my PC restart fine, no such blue screen error. If I unchecked the first option I can't use Python from my CMD. What should I do? Please help me.

    Hi Binoy,

Thank you for sharing the dump files and I apologize for the delayed response.

I have checked the crash dump files provided by you and the two drivers that came up as the cause was Smb_driver_AMDASF.sys and rt640x64.sys which are aligned to Synaptics Touchpad and Realtek.

However, as the blue screen occurs only when the Python adds the path to Environment Variables, we may have to check a few things.

One of the things we can try is, uncheck the box “Add Python 3.7 to PATH” during the installation. Then, manually add the path to Environment Variables for Python and try to compile.

Let us know if there are any concerns.

Meanwhile, I will research on this issue and see if we can get more information about the cause.

    Thanks for your reply.

Yes. It is the first time I installed Python 3.7 on my PC.

I am running the latest version of Windows 10 Pro. Version 1903. Build 18362.356

My laptop is HP Notebook. Model No- 15-ba042au

Well I think the BSOD problem is not for due to any 'faulty driver'. Because I do the experiment with the option "Add Python 3.7 to PATH" checked and unchecked. When I checked this option and after installing I restarted my PC I got BSOD.

Here is the dump files. Link:- https://1drv.ms/u/s!Aq3dgSw3op\_EkhoCcpXyyH7achEd?e=kaDHTr

Please reply if you got anything.

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that you are receiving BSOD errors after installing Python on your PC. For further clarity on the issue, please respond to the questions below.

    1. Is this the first time you are installing Python?
    2. Which build version of Windows 10 are you using currently?
    3. What is the make and model of the PC?

Refer the article Which version of Windows operating system am I running?

In general, this stop code is caused by faulty driver code that under certain conditions does not complete its work within the allotted period. You can refer to the article for more information Bug Check 0x133 DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION

Meanwhile, I would suggest you to refer the article Troubleshoot blue screen errors and see if that helps.

However, to understand the root cause of the issue we need to analyze the dump files that are created when the system crashes due to BSOD. To locate the dump files navigate to the location C:\Windows\Minidump, upload them on OneDrive, and share the link with us.

    We await your response.
