Package Microsoft.UI.Xaml logging 500 errors per hour and filling my hard drive

Windows 10 Pro 64 bit, 12GB RAM, i7 processor - fully up to date according to windows update.

For some reason my 1TB SSD was suddenly 100% full.

Windows\Temp had 793GB of event files.

Reset windows app store

Reset windows update

Still getting 500 events logged per hour which is slowly filling my hard drive again.

There are two error messages logged  for each event:

Failed with 0x490 modifying AppModel Runtime status for package Microsoft.UI.Xaml.2.2_2.21909.17002.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe for user ComputerID\UserID (current status = 0x0, desired status = 0x20).

Failed with 0x490 modifying AppModel Runtime status for package Microsoft.UI.Xaml.2.2_2.21909.17002.0_x86__8wekyb3d8bbwe for user ComputerID\UserID (current status = 0x0, desired status = 0x20).

So what is this Microsoft.UI.Xaml for and how do we stop it logging errors continually and filling up my hard drive?

It has been suggested that these messages are harmless and can be ignored. They are not harmless as they cripple my computer when the hard drive fills up. If they are not important then why log them?

    Hi Megasux

Please try each of the following, eahs one can resolve this, depending on the underlying cause:

    1

    Open the Settings App

Go to Privacy - Background apps

Turn off all non-required Background Apps, paying particular attention to communication apps like Mail, People . . .etc.

Then go to Privacy - App Diagnostics and turn that option off

Then go to File Explorer and delete all those files and restart your PC

If that does not resolve this for you, please use the solution on this thread

Tried step 1 - might as well try running in safe mode or simply kill the event logging.

The link for step "2" simply gave me an error (https://support.microsoft.com/errors). Don't know what happened to that page.

Already looked at "3" but it doesn't solve the problem, it just stops any access to MS App Store. Another useful solution is format the hard drive and install Linux - that also stops the disk from filling up with useless events, but not what I am after in this instance.

Removing the "Your Phone" app seems to have stopped the problem - although I can't see why it would and according to the MS App Store, "Your Phone" was not even installed.

The only reason why I looked at the "Your Phone" app was because it showed up in many informational event entries even though it should not have been there to start with.

I can only conclude that this app uses the MS App Broker service - where Microsoft.UI.Xaml comes into it? No idea. Corruption in the MS App Store? The troubleshooter could not find an issue.

If anybody else has this issue, go through the application event logs and look at all the info messages to see if you can spot a common application that is logging events every minute or so, then remove or reinstall that app.
