    Hi RodNorthcott,

CHKDSK cannot make changes to a disk which is in use - which means you will not be able to repair the drive you have booted from, at least not within Windows.

Open Windows Explorer, right-click on the C: drive, click Properties, and use Disk Check from there. This runs CHKDSK under the hood, but gives you the option to schedule it for when you next reboot.

    I hope this helps,

    Regards,

    David W

Yes … I can understand where you're coming from; unfortunately, the risk of writing to a disk in use is high.

When you use the scheduled disk check you can optionally specify to check the entire drive - all sectors - for problems; that one takes a very long time because it inspects the entire disk so unless you think you might have faulty hardware you could skip that part.

    Sincere regards,

    David W

Thx for prompt reply. I'll definitely try that, although I was hoping for a quick fix, because this takes longer. Oh well, thx . Cheers
