Unknown USB Device error constantly

My USB flash drive started giving me errors today on both my computers and I was able to fix all but one of them. "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43). The USB set address request failed." I tried updating my BIOS, uninstalling all Universal Serial Bus controllers, using disk manager, uninstalling the disk drive, and a few other things. After restarting my computer or re inserting the drive, the disk shows up in my file explorer, but when i click on it a window pops up saying "D:\ is unavailable. If the location is on this PC, make sure the device or drive is connected or the disk is inserted, and then try again." Is there something else I can try, or is the drive junk?

Hi GhostPossessed,

I am afraid that the USB drive looks damaged or corrupted. It would be best to take it to a maintenance shop or replace it with a new one.

Feel free to ask if you need further assistance.

It doesn't show up in either of those. It seems like my computers don't recognize it as a drive. Should I just get a new one?

    Hi GhostPossessed

I'm Dyari. Thanks for reaching out. I will be happy to assist you in this regard.

Since the USB drive has the same issue with both your computers, most probably the issue is from the USB drive not the Windows. However, let's try to narrow down the issue:

1-If it is available on Disk Management, right click on it > Delete Volume > Then create a new partition.

2-If it did not help, click on Start > Run CMD with administrator and type these commands and hit enter after:

    diskpart

    list disk

select disk X (Note: replace X with the number of your USB stick number shown in list disk)

    clean

    create partition primary

    format fs=ntfs

    assign

    exit

After that, check if it works or not.

Note: This method will wipe out all the data inside the USB.

Please let me know if you need further assistance and keep me updated.

    Stay safe
