Shcore.dll issues

This morning I started up my computer and several applications weren't working, including settings.

Every time I try to open these applications, it says: The instruction at 0x00000000004089F6 referenced memory at 0x00000000000000014. The memory could not be read. After restarting the device, I get a popup that says: The code execution cannot be processed because C:\windows\SYSTEM32\shcore.d11 was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix the problem.

Even whenever I open settings, it automatically closes and removes itself from the taskbar. I even tried to do a factory reset - both types - and both times, I was notified that I could not reset, and no files were moved. Even a system reset didn't work. I've tried downloading a shcore.dll, but that failed too.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi and thanks for reaching out. My name is William, I’m an Independent Advisor. I'll be happy to help you out today.

First, have you confirmed that SHCore is, in fact, missing?

Since this is a system file, try running the following commands from an elevated command prompt:

    sfc /scannow

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

If that does not help, restart the computer > at the logon screen, hold down the Shift key and while selecting the option to Restart. This will start the OS in the Windows Recovery Environment. From here you can select the Troubleshoot option and then select the repair or restore options. I recommend you backup any personal data before you do this.

You have two choices at this point. Reinstall the operating system or see if copying the shcore module to your computer fixes. I really am not a fan of the last option, because it does not address why this happened, address issues with any other missing system files, and the version of the dll can be specific to the version of the OS. But, since you are going to have to reinstall anyways, I suppose there is no hard in doing this.

This is a link the shcore.dll file for Windows 10 2004: https://1drv.ms/u/s!ApX1j7el8hb3hSVmwbGPrNEdT0M.... You will need to put it in C:\Windows\System32

To reinstall the OS, you will need to create Windows 10 boot media. To create Windows 10 installation boot media, see this Microsoft article: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-downlo.... You will need a USB drive with at least 8 GBs free space. Once the USB device is ready, go into the system BIOS on the computer where you want to install Windows 10 and change the boot order to place the USB drive at the top of the order.

Both Spotify and Zoom. When I open settings, there isn't an error message, the application just closes automatically and, when pinned to the taskbar, it removes itself from there. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling both, but the error message pops up when I activate the application installers.

I have done all these tasks, but the error messages still pop up. Are there any alternative ways to resolve this issue?

    Thanks.
