OMG, the exact same thing happened to me this week! They told me they would connect me to my bank on a secure line because the hackers were listening! Unfortunately for me, they told me I had a pending wire going out to a **** and someone was trying **** on my computer and that the only way to prevent the wire coming through was to withdraw the money. They got me for $5,000! I seriously thought I was in the phone with my bank’s fraud department! I can’t believe I was so stupid and listened to this guy!
Scammers using UltraViewer
A few weeks ago I had a popup "alert" come up on my laptop with a voice saying my computer had just received a virus. It gave a phone number to Microsoft to call. Of course I was being scammed, but at that moment I didn't realize it. I called the number, and talked to a man claiming to be a Microsoft employee. He even went so far as to give me a "fake" employee number. He told me my phone and my internet had been hacked, and that a virus had been installed on my computer. He said he could fix the virus problem, but needed me to accept and install the UltraViewer program. Which I found out later is a program that can give someone remote access to your computer. He also told me I should call my bank and make sure my accounts were safe, but because my phone line had been hacked, he said he would call them for me through their "secure" Microsoft phone line. Of course I wasn't talking to my bank, but to another accomplice of his. They wanted my account number, which I refused to give them, so then they claimed they could look up my account with my name. They told me I had a large amount of money withdrawn. Ok, so that made me concerned. They claimed my SS number had been hacked, (I never gave them my SS number), and that the FBI had been informed. They went on to say, accounts had been opened in my name in Florida and that they were being used to launder money. They gave me a name of the FBI agent in charge of my "case". I called the number and sure enough, talked to someone else claiming to be an FBI agent. He told me that Microsoft had sent them "proof" that my computer had been hacked and that that's how my name and SS had been used to open these accounts, and that I probably would be "ok". He also told me they were "holding" the large sum of money that they claimed had been withdrawn from my account, and that they could put it back into my account. I asked him just how they would be able to do that. He said "the same way it was taken out". Yeah,.....that would mean he would need my account numbers. I told him I wasn't giving them to him. He then threatened that the "authorities" would have to take action against me. I told him "go ahead and let them", and that "I didn't think he was who he claimed to be!" He hung up on me.
I went ahead and did a complete scan of my computer and was glad to see everything was ok.
I also changed all my passwords and even put a "fraud alert" on my SS, just to be safe. It will stay on one year, and doesn't cost anything.
Please, please be aware that there are hackers out there that will try to install the UltraViewer program on your computer. They will also use "scare" tactics to get you to do things that they want you to do.
I wanted to share with everyone this ordeal that happened to me. I don't want this to happen to anyone else.

2022-11-17T18:25:37+00:00 This happened to my sister yesterday as well. They had run a script that showed files being deleted and copied and they told her they would report her to the FBI because she had pornography on her system; which she didn't. They made it appear that way. They called from 415-237-1288
