Email won't send

Split from this thread.

I'm not the same person who sent this question originally but I have the same problem, which just started last week. I receive emails just fine but can't send any. They pile up in the Outbox and the only error I get is the "Send/Receive error" at the bottom of the page. It all worked just fine until last week. There were no attachments on the emails I tried to send so that's not the issue.

This is a recent issue. I use Outlook through Microsoft 365 and my MSN account. NO issue receiving emails, My sent folder indicates that my emails have been sent, but recipients do not receive them.

I don not have any error messages that display.

I have a separate 365 account through my university position and there are no issues with that account.

    Hello vonnie25,

Thank you for posting in the Microsoft Community Forum.

I understand that you're experiencing issues with sending emails in Outlook. I understand how frustrating this can be, but don't worry, we'll work together to find a solution.

The most common cause of this issue is a problem with the outgoing mail server settings. However, to better isolate the problem, I would like to ask a few questions.

    • Can you tell which specific email account has the problem? Just provide us the domain if it's @outlook.com, @hotmail.com or something else.
    • How do you access your email? Is it through the classic Outlook mail app or on the new Outlook version?
    • Is this a personal account or work/school account?
    • What is the configuration of your email? Is it on IMAP, POP, or Microsoft Exchange?
    • Can you provide us a screenshot of the exact error message?

To troubleshoot this, I would recommend checking your outgoing mail server settings to ensure they are correct. You can do this by going to File > Account Settings > Account Settings > double-click on your email account > More Settings > Advanced tab. Here, make sure that the outgoing server (SMTP) port number is correct and that the encryption method is also correct.

If the settings are correct, I would suggest trying to send the email again after disabling any antivirus or firewall software temporarily. Sometimes, these programs can interfere with the sending of emails.

If the issue persists, please let me know and we can explore other possible solutions.

    Sincerely,

    ReynaldoB

I have two email accounts in my Outlook. Gamil which is working fine and Ionos mail (https://www.ionos.co.uk/help/email/microsoftr-outlook/manually-setting-up-ionos-email-accounts-in-outlook-for-microsoft-365/) which was working fine receiving and sending emails but in the last few days it won't send emails and I get the error message below. All the settings are correct as per the Ionos guide for IMAP and POP3 etc.

    Any suggestions?
