Working on documents across different device

I am using office365 and work on documents on both my iPad and Mac, and I sync my documents using iCloud.

And here is my trouble:

If I work on a document on iPad, and then later make some progress on the same document on Mac, when I open the Word app on my iPad again later on, instead of loading up my latest version of the document, it sticks to the last version I edited on iPad. And to make it even worse, it overwrites my file on icloud with the old version because of the autosave function!!

It happened to me more than once and I am seriously ANNOYED.

So my question is, despite urging the developers to fix this ridiculous syncing issuing asap, how do I permanantly turn off the autosave function in ipad word app??

I know there is a setting for turning off autosave but the default for EACH document is on, so by the time I open the document and try to turn off the autosave it is very likely that it already overwritten my file on icloud.

Hi Caleb,

Per your description, there’s a point that need to be clarified so that we can help you. You mentioned "I sync my documents using iCloud", did you mean that you save the file in the iCloud that comes with the Apple, not in OneDrive which is a Microsoft cloud service?

If you are using OneDrive, the Autosavebutton on the upper-left corner will be turned on. When you start editing the file which is saved in OneDrive, the status of the file will become "Saving", and after syncing successfully to the OneDrive, the status of the file will change to "Saved". And then when you open the file from another device with the same account, you can see the latest version which is not made on this device.

May I confirm that is the status of the file "Saved" successfully when you open it from another device? Or you can check whether the changes are successfully synced from OneDrive Online.

And it's not possible to permanently turn off this feature. However, you can turn AutoSave Off for a file, and the program will remember to keep it off every time you reopen that file.

Or if you want to turn AutoSave off, by default, for all files, go to Preferences > Save, and uncheck the box next to Turn on AutoSave by default.

Best regards,

Jazlyn
