OneNote 2016 scrolling issue

I am having an issue with OneNote 2016. I use dual monitors and normally will have a lecture video playing on one monitor and OneNote 2016 on my other one. When I am active in my main screen with the lecture video and try to scroll on the window with OneNote 2016 in my second monitor, it sometimes will scroll and sometimes won't.

Yes, I have the scroll inactive windows turned on in my Windows settings, and scroll works perfectly fine with OneNote for Windows 10 when in the inactive window, but I prefer the style of OneNote 2016, so I would really want to know how to fix this?

It works usually only within a minute or so after it becomes the inactive window and I am active in my other screen, then after that, it doesn't scroll at all, and once I do click on the app to make it active, it scrolls by itself as if it wasn't able to until I clicked in the screen, and was waiting for me to activate it.

    Hello.

Yes this issue is still persisting on the newest update and after uninstalling and reinstalling. I Also tried making a new user account on my computer and tried different notebooks in OneNote 2016 and the issue is still there.

I have tried different notebooks as well.

I do NOT have this problem in OneNote for Windows 10 at all but I prefer to use OneNote 2016

    Hi JodhuaL12346,

We appreciate that you posted back and shared the information with us. We also appreciate that you spent your precious time doing those tests.

Per your description, it seems that all notebooks have the same problem, and this issue only occurs on OneNote 2016, and the other application doesn’t have the same problem.

If so, we noticed that you are not using the latest version of Office, so we’d suggest you refer to the suggestion we provided above to refer to this article: Update history for Microsoft 365 Apps to achieve the latest version of Office. Then you can update your Office to the latest version to check if the same problem will occur.

At the same time, may I know if you have tried repairing Office? If not, you can also refer to the suggestions we provided to Online repair Office. For your reference: Repair an Office application.

If you have tried the suggestions above and same problem still persists, We’d suggest you try to uninstall Office, then you can refer to this article: Download and install or reinstall Microsoft 365 or Office 2019 on a PC or Mac to reinstall Office to check if the same problem will occur.

Please do let us know if that works for you, we’ll be glad to provide further help. At the same time, may I know if Word or Excel have the same problem? Could you provide the detailed name of the product you purchased?

Thank you for your patience so far.

    Best Regards,

    Sukie

Hello, yes I am still having problems with all different notebooks. I am noticing that it does this even when working only on one monitor, and i have OneNote 2016 open on part of the screen. This issue only is in OneNote 2016. Not the new Windows 10 OneNote app

    Hi JoshuaL12346,

Thank you for querying in this forum. We understand the inconvenience caused and apologize for it. And we will try our best to help you.

According to your description, it seems that you have two monitors, and you played video on one monitor and displayed OneNote 2016 on another monitor. However, you found that it sometimes will scroll and sometimes won't in OneNote 2016 when you played video. And it works fine in OneNote for Windows 10. And you want to scroll all the time in OneNote 2016.

May I know if my understanding is right? If so, we have tested it on our side, and we set the main screen and played video on main screen, at the same time, we also displayed OneNote 2016 on the second monitor. And we found that we can scroll down page well. After one minute, it still works fine.

Given this situation, we’d give you some suggestions below and hope that will help you:

    1. We’d suggest you refer to the suggestion I provided to refer to this article: Update history for Microsoft 365 Apps to achieve the latest version of Office. Then you can update your Office to the latest version to check if the same problem will occur.
    2. You can use Online Repair to fix the Office application. Repair an Office application.

If the same problem still persists after trying the suggestions above, to better understand your situation, could you provide the information below?

    1. Could you provide the product Information and version of your OneNote 2016? You can go to OneNote 2016 > File > Account and provide the screenshot of it.
    2. May I know if all notebooks have the same problem? You can create a new notebook or open another notebook in OneNote 2016 to check if the same problem will occur.
    3. May I know if the other Office applications and non-Office applications have the same problem?
    4. Could you go to Windows Settings > Devices > Mouse provide the screenshot of it?

    Best Regards,

    Sukie
