Damaged Word Document with "Unknown Field Code Changed"

I have a similar question to the original stream for this query. However, the instructions provided there didn't work for me. Using Alt F9, I cut and pasted the links and then saved and they all returned.

Using Control Home, I checked the beginning and then the end of the document for further {}, but there weren't any, so I'm not sure why it was returning.

We have multiple people working on documents within this office so I'm wondering if somehow that caused it? I am told that I am the source of the problem since it 'was fine' before I touched it but I didn't use Alt F9 or any 'functions' prior to this happening, so I'm not sure what happened. We do need to know what happened since multiple people are constantly editing a number of documents.

Is this, perhaps a bug that needs fixing in an update?

Thank-you,

Nicole

I do not know what you mean by "the original stream for this query"

However, if you send me a copy of the document, referencing this thread in the covering email message, I will investigate the issue.

Since the online version of Word (in OneDrive or Teams) is rather limited, it might very well cause trouble with hyperlinks and other fields.

Can you share an example document which illustrates this issue?

    Hi,

    yes, using track changes.

All of the error codes are where we have hyperlinks, so when I press Alt F9, I saw the extra brackets { } around each of the hyperlinks.

One of my coworkers suggested that he corrected the issue by correcting all the hyperlinks and then "accepting" the edit twice in order to remove the error code. This worked, but I want to know why it happened as multiple people are working on multiple documents using hyperlinks. My coworker also suggested we only started seeing this error after the inclusion of MS Teams. Not sure how that links in?

    thanks,

The field code could be damaged. What do you see if you press Alt+F9 to display field codes? (On some keyboards you may have to press Alt+Fn+F9 rather than just Alt+F9.)

Are you tracking changes in the document?

    This is the original stream:

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/msoffice_word-mso_win10-mso_2013_release/damage-word-document-with-unknown-field-code/716b0ea7-3475-4ba4-af23-76a19d42e31d

I am not experiencing the issue of the navigation showing 1.1 1.1.1.  Only the "Unknown Field Code" error.

    thanks,

    Nicole
