New hyperlinks within Excel document don't work when using Excel for iOS

Hello,

I am working on Excel spreadsheets originally created on a PC but being modified with a MacBook, using Microsoft Excel for Mac version 16.52.

The original spreadsheet has many tabs and for convenience I have used the hyperlink function to quickly move from one tab to another.

When accessing the worksheet on the MacBook, all the hyperlinks previously created with PC work as they should, however when I create a new tab and attempt to link to it in the usual way, I receive a syntax error.

In hovering over the cell, I can see that the hyperlink addresses which don't work all lack the cell reference (typically "A1"). However it doesn't seem to matter if I add in the cell reference in at the "Edit Hyperlink" pop-up, the new saved hyperlink does not include the cell reference and clicking the link generates the syntax error popup.

I would like to know if there is some extra step I'm missing in this process, or some other way to link tabs when using Microsoft Excel for Mac. TIA for your help!

    Hi PapaBearNV,

Thanks for the updates on the issue. it seems that the issue only happens on the workbook. I agree with you that the underlying issue could be related to the workbook, For some reasons, the workbook could be corrupted so that the feature don’t work correctly. Comparing with fixing the corrupted workbook, It could be a quick solution to copy/move your other tabs to the new workbook. Please check if the issue gets solved after copy/move all worksheet to the new workbook.

    Best Regards,

    Clark

    Hi Clark,

Thanks for making the suggestion of creating a new spreadsheet on Mac and attempting to replicate the issue. When I do this, a newly created hyperlink works as it should.

As a follow-up, I then created a copy of the master tab (this has all the main hyperlinks) from the original PC-created spreadsheet and moved that over to the new Mac-created spreadsheet. Those links all worked.

So from I this I presume the underlying issue is from using a spreadsheet originally created from a PC. Are there any workarounds, or do I have to drag all tabs from the old spreadsheet onto a new Mac-created one?

    Best,

    PapaBearNV

    Hi PapaBearNV,

I go through the post carefully, based on the descriptions, it seems that you meet issue when use hyperlink to link to tab in a worksheet created from PC. For further troubleshooting and check if I can repro similar results on my side. Could you please share information below with us?

    1. Could you please share a sample of the correct hyperlink and incorrect hyperlink or some screenshots on it with us?
    2. As for the syntax error, could you please share a screenshot on that with us?
    3. If you do the same operation in a workbook created from Excel on Mac, does the same issue happen?

    Regards,

    Clark
