Can SharePoint replace One Note?

Hello

How can i replace my One Note "second Brain" with SharePoint?

My team use One Note as a repository of infomation we provide, all of this is narrative, breifings, summarys, reports etc. We "print to" One note. We do this as the search system is so good, we can put in a key word or two and then flick through the results easily to find the one we want. We don't have to open document after document.

Plus it will search, title and contents all on one go.

Now a corporate killjoy has decided that One Note shouldn't be used for collaboration as it may impact on network capacity and stroage on individual devices - I have not control over this so am looking for an alternative.

We have SharePoint online and i suppose we could save everytihng i there. However, it takes longer to open each file and our team don't understand how to use Meta data so i am not sure the searvh will be as comprehensive as On e note.

Any advice / suggestions?

    Hi Steve,

    Thanks for posting back.

Normally, when you use the Search feature in SharePoint to search files, it will crawl related metadata of files, like Created Date. Yes, it can also search the content of SharePoint files while based on my test, it won't search all the contents of one file as accurately as the built-in search function of OneNote. If you want to search the keyword in one file, I think the built-in feature of Office applications is more suitable for your organization.

Also, if you want to manage result sources in SharePoint, please view the following reference.

    Appreciate your understanding and patience.

    George

    Sorry this doesn't help.

My team wont take the time to maintian metadata we need a very low maintenace input method such as print to one note, then the search needs to go through the title and content to pull back the results so we can quickly flick through them

One Note does it perfectly, i need to know if / how to replicate this in SharePoint

    Hi Steve,

Thanks for posting in the community.

According to your description, you store all information and search information in OneNote notebooks. For SharePoint Online, it is an online platform for users to organize, share and access information from any device while OneNote is one application. In SharePoint, you can use Microsoft Search to find sites, pages, and files. In the following screenshot, I search the keywords on one site.

For using metadata in SharePoint, please view the following references:
