Cannot undo changes when working on word documents saved on OneDrive/SharePoint after autosave

Hi,

I am quite often working in Word documents which are saved on OneDrive/SharePoint (company policy) but I work on them in the word application and not through the browser.

That works in general fine but one thing which is quite annoying is that after every autosave I cannot undo changes anymore. E.g., if I by accident deleted a paragraph and just want to undo that change as always, but the file just autosaved, I cannot do this and have to spend time restoring previous versions.

Undo is a very common and incredibly helpful feature and it seems strange that this does not seem to work in this quite common scenario.

Any advice on how to make this work?

If you start Word normally, what Add-ins are loaded? Look at each of the Add-in items in the Add-ins section of the Developer tab of the ribbon, if you disable all of them by unchecking the box to the left of them and then, one at a time, recheck the box and see if you are then able to under after an autosave, you may be able to determine which of the add-ins is causing the problem.

Hi! Thanks for the quick reply.

However, the problem is not that AutoSave does not work or is not switched on. AutoSave works fine. Also, I have access to the undo button (actually I put in on the Quick Access Toolbar, and also use the keyboard shortcut quite often).

The problem is that after an AutoSave, the Undo button (and shortcut) do not work anymore for prior changes.

    Hi,

I tried disabling the different add-ins 1 by 1 and indeed undo after save/autosave did work after I disabled one called "office extensions"; please see below

    Hello Hagen,

As per my test, as long as you don't close the Word document in the Word app, Undo works even the document in the OneDrive is AutoSaved. So, can I know whether this behavior is happening consistently or intermittently?

In addition, can I know the version and Product Information of the Word app used at your end? Please refer to this article: About Office: What version of Office am I using? (microsoft.com)

    Best Regards,

    Chitrahaas

AutoSave on a doc when opened from OneDrive should be On, by default, you dont have to specifically Save

If you make an edit error, under the Home Tab you will have access to an Undo Btn
