Cross Referencing Appendix Figure/Tables

I have a requirement to cross reference figures/tables in an Appendix. In the body of the report the figure/appendix needs to be "Table A-1" or "Figure B-1". However, in the body of Appendix A the table needs to be listed as "Table 1" and the body of Appendix B the figure needs to be "Figure 1".

Is there any way to use "Insert Caption" and "Cross References" to automatically format and update these references as figures/tables are inserted? Thanks.

You would need to insert the text Table A-1 in the appendix and then assign a bookmark to it, such as TableA1 and format the font so that it is hidden.

When you insert the cross reference to the text of the bookmark, it will also appear with the font attribute set to hidden, but if you remove that attribute, it will not be reinstated if the fields in the document are updated and the cross reference will function in the same way as any other cross reference.

With the display of hidden text not in effect, you will not see the Table A-1 in the appendix.

Thanks! I'll check this out. Do you know if there is a way to force the cross reference to "Table A-1" or "Figure B-1"? We have very specific formatting guidelines.

You will need to insert two cross-references - one to the Appendix and the other to the Table or Figure with the result being

    Appendix A - Table 1

However if you use CTRL+Left Click on the Table 1 part of the cross references. the focus will move to Table 1 in Appendix A.
