I have an excel object in Word document. It shows me a certain no of rows and columns.

When I wanted to resize it (to see more or less columns and rows) in the previous versions I used "Worksheet Object -> Edit".

But in Office 365 on my PC **"Worksheet Object -> Edit"**and **"Worksheet Object -> Open"**acts the same.

Hi May

Yes, this finally fixed the situation.

And good that you asked me to check the registry key because the Office folder was actually not removed from there.

I am up and running!

Have a nice day :-)

/Anne

    Hi Anne,

Thank you for the reply and I am sorry for my delayed reply.

According to my latest test, I found that you are right, the “Worksheet Object>Open” and “Worksheet Object>Edit” shouldn’t act the same.

And I am sorry for my mistake. I tested with “Linked Worksheet Object>Open link” and “Linked Worksheet Object>Edit link” not “Worksheet Object>Open” and “Worksheet Object>Edit” yesterday.

The difference is that I selected Link to file yesterday. But your situation doesn’t need to select the option Link to file.

So, in this case, it’s first recommended to create a new Word document to see the result. If the issue doesn’t occur in the new document, it means that your current document may be corrupted. Given this situation, you may try to copy and paste the content form the old one to the new one.

If the issue also happens to the new created document, it means this issue should be related to your Word app. And you may try the following methods:

    Method 1:

Please try to open Word in safe mode to troubleshoot whether the issue is caused by some add-ins. If you could open Office apps in safe mode, please  try to temperately disable all add-ins referring  to steps in this article: View, manage, and install add-ins in Office programs - Office Support (microsoft.com)

    Method 2:

Please  perform an Online Repair for Office.

If the above suggestions don’t help. Feel free to contact me.

And for a better understanding of your situation, may I confirm the following information?

    1. The build and version information of your Word? (File>Account.) Could you please share a screenshot on the Product information page and help mask your email address to protect your privacy? Like shown below:

    1. The build and version information of your Windows? (Click the Start menu > Type “winver” > and hit Enter.)

    Best Regards,

    May

    Hi May

Thanks for a very fast reply!

It is definitely not a default behavior. On my PC, this behavior changed a couple of months ago - I assume via an automated update. Updating to Windows 11 recently made no change. Further, my colleagues do not have the same problem despite running the same Office 365 version.

I would really like to get this fixed as this behavior prevents me from doing my job...

    I hope you can help.

I already tried (without any luck):

    • Wiping the all Office 365 desktop application and reinstalling them
    • Rebooting several times
    • Testing with two screens, internal screen, external screen and different combinations of screen resolution
    • Saving documents in older Word formats

    These are my specs:

    Hi Anne Bay,

Thank you for posting in this Answer Community.

It seems that I can reproduce this issue.

According to my tests on my PC, the “Linked Worksheet Object>Open link” and “Linked Worksheet Object>Edit link” act the same.

So, I am afraid it is a default behavior for the current version of Office 365 apps.

If you have further concerns, feel free to contact me.

    Best Regards,

    May
