    Hi HJTan1,

As per your description, I totally understand that this problem has caused many inconveniences to you. I sincerely hope I can help you find the root cause as soon as possible.

Could you please confirm to me, are you able to sign-in your Microsoft 365 account via go to https://portal.office.com?

As per your error message, given this situation, please kindly try to update the registry key to check the outcome. The detailed steps were provided in the above article.

Note: Before updating the registry, kindly take backup of the registry:

Meanwhile, you can also try to run Office as administrator (Right click Word or Excel, select Run as administrator) to see if it can help. If the problem persists, please download and run SaRA tool to help you identify and fix this problem.

Moreover, here are some additional steps that might be help with your situation:

    1. Switch to another network to rule out network problems.
    2. Does your computer have any Proxy or VPN enabled? If so, please disable it to see the outcome.

If above steps doesn’t work for you then try to Completely uninstall Office with the uninstall support tool (option 2) to completely remove Office from your device, as uninstalling Office through Control Panel > Programs & Features would keep some preferences for next installation and then log into Office portal with the corresponding account and click Install Office button to install.

I appreciate your understanding and stay safe!!

    Best Regards

    Waqas Muhammad

    Hi HJTan1,

Thanks for sharing updates with us and I really appreciate your effort and your precious time. Please allow me to explain you, first you need to valid Office 365 subscription license to active Office 365 apps e.g. outlook app to sign-in/active then you can add mail box(without sign-in app you cannot add mail box to outlook). In this scenario, I requested you can contact your organization IT admin and request for to assign you valid Office 365 subscription license, one’s subscription should include(The latest desktop version of Office) then you should be able to add.

I appreciate your understanding and stay safe!!

    Best Regards

I would still need to sign in to my business email account on the desktop Outlook app. This has not been possible. Could you let me know how I can sign in?

I get this message when I try to add.

    Hi HJTan1,

Thanks for sharing updates with us and I really appreciate your effort and your precious time, and I know it effect on your daily work and I apologize for this.

As I notice, you post your Office 365 subscription page in another thread, but as per your subscription you are using Office 365 business basic subscription and I would like to convey you , the Office 365 business basic subscription only have Office 365 apps for web (not including Office 365 desktop client app). That the reason you are unable to sign-in/active Office 365 on your machine.

For reference: Service availability within each Microsoft 365 and Office 365 plan

    1. Yes I am able to sign in to the MS 365 account.
    2. I have already updated the registry key. On the last step 13) I received the message "Registry Editor could not set security in the key currently selected, or some of its subkeys"
    3. I have already tried to run Office as administator. It did not help.
    4. I have already run the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant. It did not help.
    5. I have tried a different network. It did not work.
    6. No Proxy/VPN enabled.
    7. I have already done a clean uninstall for Office. I still face the same problem.
