When hovering the mouse pointer over excel map (e.g., US State), it displays too much data.

Below is a question on how to get data to display when hovering a mouse cursor over an excel map location. Can I edit what is displayed? For example, when I hoover my cursor over the United States on the excel map, the data displayed is, Series "Product" Point "United States" Value: 1", I would like to only have "United States" displayed.

Thanks

Tom

Hovering mouse pointer over curve plot doesn't display the x and y points (like it did in earlier excel versions)

This question was already asked but a resolution wasn't posted on it:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/all/rollover-problem-in-excel-20102007-for-area-charts/adda3637-9828-402b-92ea-fe23f99dc4d5

To reiterate, I'm using Microsoft Office 365 Pro Plus on Windows 10.  I used to be able to hover over the graph I plotted and the labels plus the X,Y axis points corresponding to my mouse pointer were displayed. This is very useful for the application I'm working on. To illustrate, here's a screen capture from an older revision (likely before I updated Office):

Now however, it doesn't show anything at all.  Even if click on the point it doesn't float the label with the points (see image below).  Of course, if I right click and add a data label, it does; however, I would like to enable the hover-over feature.

Hi Gautham,

From your description and screenshots, you found that the data point value on hover isn’t showing on your chart when you moved the cursor over the chart. It seems you disable “Show data point value on hover” in Excel option settings

You can go to Excel File > Option > Advance > Chart > Check “Show chart element names on hover” and “Show data point values on hover”. Then you can see the plot value when you move the cursor over the chart plot.

For your addition information, my Office client is Version 1911(Build 12228,20332).

Best regards,

Dihao

Hi ThomasStrouse1:

According to your description, we understand that you currently have two problems, I will give my test results and suggestions respectively.

  1. For map charts, is it possible to customize the display of data content that appears on mouseover .

In my tests, it was not possible to do this. The content of this display should be in a fixed format, there are no settings on it to customize this.

  1. It seems that when you hover over the coordinate lines, the data is not displayed.

No such problem occurred in our tests:

We would like to know if you have tried the advanced settings you mentioned. And does this issue occur in a specific workbook?

Please check if there are any updates of Office. You can update your Office applications in the following ways: Open Excel -> File -> Account ->Update Options ->Update Now.

We appreciate your understanding that sometimes the initial suggestions may not resolve the problem very soon. However, we can work together to narrow down and resolve the situation. So, Please kindly provide more information below to let us work further:

  • Screenshot of the version information of the Excel you are using. (Open Excel->File->Account)

Hope this will help you.
