Calculate on Exit Doesn't work

I'm using Microsoft Word 2013 (Home and Student).

I am currently trying to create a fillable table in a fillable form that would add up expenses like an excel spreadsheet while making things like the header uneditable. I asked this question once before and had no answers, and before I could update my question Microsoft locked the question thread.

I searched aimlessly on the internet for months, until I stumbled upon the Calculate on Exit function on another question thread (shocker, that one was locked too).

After manually adding the Form Field command into my Develop tools, I followed the tutorial (Making the "Type" Number for the field that need to be calculated and Calculate for the field that was doing the totaling, blah blah blah - here's the tutorial: https://www.middlesex.mass.edu/KB/Articles/Public/169/ ), but every time I tab out of the fields (Before AND after protecting/making the document uneditable) it won't work. Is there additional coding I'm missing?

EDIT (11/27/22): I did a small test and found that every time I enter a value the Form Field settings completely go away, as if the function was never put there in the first place. Not sure why this is happening.

Have you protected the document for forms?
