Effort allocation when multiple resources assigned to a task in Project for the Web.

Hoping someone may be able to provide assistance. We are considering broader use of Project for the web as underlying data is more readily availble for integration with other systems.

I have a task with a duration of 4 hrs with 4 Resources assigned. The Total effort is correctly calculated to be 16hrs (4x4). However, when I look at the allocation of this 16hrs (via Power BI) it is as follows.

Resource A - 3hrs

Resource B - 3hrs

Resource C - 5hrs

Resource D - 5hrs

============

                  16hrs

What determines the distribution of hours between each resource. I would have assumed each resource would have had an equal allocation of hours (4hrs)

    Your assumption is reasonable and that's how it works in MSP desktop. I am as curious as you are about why it seems, in this case, to not do 4 x 4 in project for the web. Perhaps it has something to do with the order in which you entered the assignments.

    Dear Paul Mills2

    Good day! Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

    Generally, the number of hours a group member or resource spends on a task. You can enter whatever amount of effort you like in the equation "Completed + Remaining = Total." After that, if you change duration or assignment, effort will adjust to fit. If a day is added to duration, effort is increased by one day's worth of hours. The detailed information you can refer to Effort and duration in Project for the web (microsoft.com)

    Meanwhile, we will do a test on our end in the Project web to check if the distribution of hours between each resource is 4hrs or we'll get the same result as yours. This test maybe needs a little time to finish, please kindly keep patient and we'll post back as soon as possible once the test was finished.

    Besides, we also welcome other members or MVPs to share their ideas about this query in here.

    Your understanding and patience will be highly appreciated. I hope that you are keeping safe and well!

    Sincerely,
