Mouse scroll wheel doesn’t work on data validation drop down list in Excel. However, it does work fine in the MacOS version. When are you going to address this issue? This is a very basic functionality that even free open source office suites have. From a search of the internet, I can see that this issue is not a new one.

    Sorry to disagree oluwasegunfunmi,
I'd consider this to be a core functionality.
Navigation for a desktop is even more basic that developing any other complex functions.
It's basic UI expected in any software nowadays.

Yes, I’m aware that I can use the arrow keys to scroll through the list. The problem is that I want to use the scroll wheel on the mouse for that function because it is more convenient, more intuitive, and it’s faster. As I stated in my original post, the scroll wheel function works perfectly in the Mac version, but I don’t have the option to use Mac at work. My real question is to the Microsoft 365 team as to why they have not included this very basic and common functionality into the Windows version of Excel.

    hi Michael B

I'm Segunfunmi and I'd be happy to help you out with your question

First, try clicking on the drop-down list to activate it and then using the arrow keys on your keyboard to scroll through the options. This should work in both the Windows and Mac versions of Excel.

If that doesn't work, you can try changing the settings for your mouse scroll wheel. Depending on the type of mouse you have, you may be able to customize the behavior of the scroll wheel in your mouse settings. For example, you could try setting the scroll wheel to "scroll one screen at a time" instead of "scroll one line at a time."

    best regards, segunfunmi

    hi

I can offer some possible reasons why this specific functionality may not be available in the Windows version of Excel:

    Compatibility:

Excel is designed to work on a wide range of devices and platforms, including desktops, laptops, tablets, and smartphones. Adding direct integration with smartphone cameras might require additional compatibility considerations and potentially limit the range of supported devices.

    Focus on core features:

Excel is primarily a spreadsheet application designed for data processing, analysis, and visualization. The Microsoft 365 team might prioritize adding or improving features that are more closely related to Excel's core functionalities rather than integrating with smartphone cameras.

    Security and privacy concerns:

Integrating Excel with smartphone cameras might raise security and privacy concerns for users, as it would require the application to access and manage sensitive personal data (i.e., photos). This could lead to potential risks and liabilities for Microsoft.

    Complexity:

Developing and maintaining a feature that integrates with a wide variety of smartphone cameras can be complex, particularly considering the wide array of camera hardware and software across different devices.

While these reasons might explain why the Microsoft 365 team has not yet implemented this feature, it's essential to remember that the suite is continuously evolving, and new features are added regularly. It's possible that the team might consider adding this functionality in the future based on user demand and feedback.
