Inquiry Regarding SMTP Authentication Setting in Exchange Admin Center

Dear [Microsoft Support/IT Department],

I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to seek assistance regarding the availability of the Authenticated SMTP setting in our Exchange Admin Center. I have followed the documentation provided by Microsoft, specifically the article on "Authenticated Client SMTP Submission" (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/exchange/clients-and-mobile-in-exchange-online/authenticated-client-smtp-submission), but I am unable to locate the mentioned setting.

I have thoroughly explored the Exchange Admin Center and reviewed the mailbox settings, but I cannot find any SMTP-related options or configurations. I suspect that this setting may not be available or accessible in our current environment or subscription.

Could you please provide guidance on how to enable or disable Authenticated SMTP in our Exchange environment? If this setting is not available, I would appreciate alternative suggestions or workarounds for ensuring secure email sending from our organization.

Any assistance or clarification you can provide would be greatly appreciated. If there are specific steps or instructions that I may have missed, please kindly provide them so that I can proceed accordingly.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your prompt response and guidance.

Best regards, [Your Name] [Your Contact Information]

Hello Bharath Kumar Gundala1, Good day!Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.As per the description you have shared, we understand that you have a concern with how to enable or disable Authenticated SMTP in your Exchange environment.

Due to the deprecation of basic auth, enabling from the portal/GUI isn't possible anymore, so you should use the PowerShell approach, that's guaranteed to work. Reference: Enable or disable SMTP AUTH in Exchange Online | Microsoft Learn

Additional information: To enable or disable Authenticated SMTP in your Exchange environment using PowerShell, you can use the Set-CASMailbox cmdlet. Here is an example of how to enable Authenticated SMTP for a specific mailbox:

    Set-CASMailbox -Identity <MailboxIdentity> -SmtpClientAuthenticationDisabled $false

To disable Authenticated SMTP for a specific mailbox, you can use the following command:

    powershell
    Set-CASMailbox -Identity <MailboxIdentity> -SmtpClientAuthenticationDisabled $true

Note that you need to replace <MailboxIdentity> with the actual identity of the mailbox you want to modify. Also, make sure you have the necessary permissions to modify mailbox settings using PowerShell.

If you are not very familiar with the PowerShell command, you create a ticket via the admin portal and our support online level 2 will assist you for the PowerShell process.

    1. Create a Service Request in the O365 Admin Portal and indicate the request as clearly as possible.
