This suggests that NotePad is trying to open a file which isn't actually in the *.txt format.

    Hi NORM S,

I’m Gunasekar and I will be happy to help you with your question, I am a Microsoft consumer like you.

    1. Could you please elaborate more about the issue?
    2. Are you referring to .txt file displaying an error when opening on Notepad?
    3. Could you please provide us with a full screenshot of the error screen for our reference? Please click on Use rich formatting to insert a screenshot and select the Insert Image icon.

Note that Notepad is not included with an Office subscription, and it is a standalone app that is pre-installed on all devices. If you encounter any issues opening your Notepad files, look for backup (or) the file might be corrupted.

I hope this information helps. If you have any questions, please let me know and I’ll be glad to assist you further.

    Best regards,

    Gunasekar N
