Power Query options missing

The screenshots below are from two Macs using the same 365 subscription and the exact same version of Excel. One shows lots of options in Power Query and the other only shows two. What is going on here and how do I get the additional options on my second device?

I have a third Mac and it is also able to see more than two options.

This worked... but it didn't... but ultimately did. Let me explain:

  1. I checked the update channel. One was on "Current (Preview)" and the other was on "Current" but updating to Preview on both showed no available updates.
  2. I ran the license removal tool and signed back in. The problem remained
  3. I removed Excel completely, ran the removal tool again, reinstalled Excel, ran the update utility, and the problem remained...
    1. I thought maybe it was an issue with my new company license, and perhaps my old computer was still holding onto permissions from the old company license (since I didn't run the license removal tool there).
    2. I removed Excel and the license from my old computer, reinstalled, and Power Data query worked as expected (with multiple options) *on the old computer, which never had an issue*.
    3. I went back to the new computer - the one experiencing the issue - opened Excel again, and it prompted me about how to launch power query editor, which it had not previously. It was fully functional!

I hope this post can help someone else. There was some kind of weird restart or waiting-period issue after the reinstall in step 3.

Mia, I very much appreciate the help!

Dear Smith,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

Per the description shared, I would like to summarize your concern i.e., the Power Query options on your Excel app on the Mac are having the different options on the Excel app even having the same version of the Office apps.

If my understanding is correct, I would like to suggest you to check the update channel of the Excel app where you can see all options.

Open the Excel app> Click on the Help in the Menu bar> Check for the updates> See whether it displays the Beta channel or Production channel.

Moreover, please check the update channel in the Excel app where it only show 2 options and see whether it's different with Excel app where it shows all options.

If channels are same, please remove the Office activated files by removal tool on the problematic Mac and see the behavior. Reference: How to remove Office license files on a Mac - Microsoft Support

If still the same, I suggest you to provide the feedback to the related development team in the Excel app. Reference: How do I give feedback on Microsoft 365? - Microsoft Support

Thanks for your cooperation.

Sincerely,

Mia | Microsoft Community Moderator
