ChatGPT for Excel

Today I tried ChatGPT for excel.

I created an API key with chatgpt and got started.

It did not work for me as intended so I deleted Chatgpt, the API key and the add-in in excell.

So now I don't have a ChatGPT account anymore. Deleted the API key.

However, when I reinstalled the add-in in Excel, the API key keeps showing up and connecting succesfuly. It says the API key is safely stored on my computer.

Where can I see this key? It is no longer useful for me so I want to delete it.

best regards

    Hi Glenn

Thanks for your answer. The ChatGPT add-in is not listed under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Excel\Addins.

    Can it be located elsewhere?

    best regards

    Hello, Jaywhat.

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

From the description you have provided you're having trouble with the ChatGPT add-in in Excel.

If you have already deleted the ChatGPT account and API key, but the add-in is still connecting successfully, it's possible that the API key is still stored in your computer's registry.

To delete the API key, you can try the following steps:

    1. Open the Registry Editor by pressing the Windows key + R, typing "regedit" in the Run dialog box, and pressing Enter.
    2. Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Excel\Addins\ChatGPT
    3. Right-click on the ChatGPT key and select "Delete".
    4. Close the Registry Editor and restart Excel.

This should remove the API key from your computer and prevent the add-in from connecting to ChatGPT. If you're not comfortable with editing the registry, you may want to contact Microsoft representative via phone or chat for help.

Whether you prefer to contact our phone or chat teams, you can do so by visiting the following link:
