I would like to give an excel file to a work colleague, but he should not be able to share it with anyone else.

Is this possible?

Thank you

Hi Roger, Welcome to the Microsoft Community. I am a Microsoft user just like you, and I hope you are well.

To prevent your work colleague from sharing the Excel file with anyone else, you can implement certain measures to protect the file. Here are a few options you can consider:

    1. Password Protection: You can set a password to open the Excel file. To do this: a. Open the Excel file. b. Go to "File" and select "Info." c. Click on "Protect Workbook" or "Protect Sheet," depending on whether you want to protect the entire workbook or just specific sheets. d. Choose "Encrypt with Password" and set a password. e. Share the password with your colleague separately, not in the same message as the file.
    2. Restrict Editing: You can restrict editing, which can help prevent unauthorized sharing. To do this: a. Open the Excel file. b. Go to "Review" and select "Protect Sheet" or "Protect Workbook" depending on your needs. c. In the protection options, you can specify which actions are allowed or disallowed (e.g., selecting locked cells, editing objects, etc.). d. Set a password if you want to prevent others from modifying these settings.
    3. File Permissions: In addition to Excel-specific protection, you can also set file-level permissions in your operating system. Right-click on the file, go to "Properties," and choose the "Security" tab. You can restrict file access there.

I hope this is helpful! Best Regards, Utkarsh
