Excel Not Responding

Question

Does anyone have Microsoft 365 and experience Excel Not Responding. To fix the problem over the past 3 years, I have been to MS help desk 5 times, and they haven’t solved it. I’ve searched the problem online and followed the instructions to fix it, without success. I have also been on utube and followed the instructions to solve the problem, BUT I still have the problem. I am 70 years old and use Excel daily, but I don’t know the technical workings of a laptop. It takes me all day to work in ONE document, waiting for cells and rows to respond, it is driving me crazy. Can anyone help me please, with simple instructions.

Here are troubleshooting steps that can help resolve the most common issues when you receive an Excel not responding error, Excel hangs or freezes when you launch it, or open an Excel workbook. These types of problems may occur for one or more of the reasons.

1. Install the latest updates
2. Check to make sure Excel is not in use by another process
3. Check whether your file is being generated by a third party
4. Perform a selective startup to determine whether a program, process, or service conflicts with Excel
5. Repair your Office programs
6. Check to see if your antivirus software is up-to-date or conflicting with Excel
7. Safe mode troubleshooting

Hi Jackson, I have looked at all of this before, and so have Microsoft.

I just started excel up in safe mode and it still gave me the not responding error.

the rest Disabling add-ins is too complicated for me.

The Excel Crash Troubleshooter scenario automates safe mode troubleshooting which includes the following:

• Starting Excel in safe mode
• Disabling COM add-ins
• Disabling Excel add-ins
• Moving files from startup folders used by Excel
• Renaming custom toolbar files (.xlb)

Depending on what’s found by the scenario on your device, some of these troubleshooting steps may require you to manually reset your add-in configuration and move files back into startup folders. Please use the following information, as needed, to determine changes that may have been made by the scenario.

COM add-ins and Excel add-ins

If the scenario disables COM add-ins or Excel add-ins:

• The \Addin folder is renamed to \AddinsRenamedBySaRA under the following registry keys:
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Excel
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\ClickToRun\REGISTRY\MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\Excel

Even Microsoft took over my laptop and tried to fix it numerous times, but they couldn't do it. I think Microsoft should address this Excel Not responding error message. It only started 3 years ago when I subscribed to 365. I've had my laptop wiped and reinstalled everything, still I get the error message. I think my only other option is to buy a new laptop and start again.

My laptop repair shop only do repairs, they don't handle software problems.

I am very frustrated by it all.
