Can't edit on a Mac

Hi,

I just bought a new computer and migrated everything over from my old Mac to my new one. Now when I open Excel or Word I get a message at the top that says "Your account doesn't allow editing on a Mac. To learn more, contact your admin about your Microsoft 365 plan."

Well I have no idea who my admin is, so I'm asking here.

Thank you!

Aaron

    Hi Aaron,

What kind of license did you purchase? Here's how to activate your Office apps:

    ACTIVATE MICROSOFT OFFICE

    Stand-alone perpetual license:

Activate Office for Mac - Microsoft Support

    -or-

    MS 365 subscriber:
    Activate Office - Microsoft Support

However, the message suggests that the license type you have allows use of only the on-line applications, not the desktop applications, which will prevent you from being able to activate the desktop applications.

    Hello Aaron,

I'm Ibhadighi and I'd happily help you with your question. In this forum, we are Microsoft consumers just like yourself.

I suggest you sign out and then sign back in of Office using the steps below:

    Sign out:

Open any Office app, such as Word or Excel. Select the name of the Office app in the top menu. Select Sign Out. Quit out of all Office apps

    Sign in:

Open any Office app, such as Word or Excel. Select File > Account (or Office Account if you’re using Outlook). If you’re not already signed in, click Sign In. In the Sign-in window, type the email address and password you use with Office.

Please let us know if the issue persists.

    Best Regards, IBHADIGHI
