Configuring automatic Provisioning for an enterprise Entra Id application

Good morning,

We tried to configure the automatic provisioning for an enterprise Entra Id app to connect to our own Scim server. Still, we encountered an error when Entra Id made request to check the health of the SCIM service in the Test Connection flow.

The error is: We received this unexpected response from your application: Received response from Web resource. resource: https://[scim_server]/scim/v2/Groups?excludedAttributes=memebers&filter=displayName+eq+"AzureAD_Test-158f8a86-27e7-48b9-b403-5d1139f90076". Operation: GET. Response Status Code: NotImplemented.

We don't implement the Scim endpoints for groups because we don't need to provision/de-provision Group. We will enable User provisioning (Provision Microsoft Entra ID Users) and disable Group provisioning (Provision Microsoft Entra ID Groups).

According to Entra ID provisioning https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/entra/identity/app-provisioning/use-scim-to-provision-users-and-groups#groups, it is mentioned that the /Groups are optional.

Questions:

  • Why did Entra ID send the fetch group request in the Test Connection flow if the Groups endpoints are optional?
  • Can we skip the Test Connection and jump to the Mappings setting right away to disable Group provisioning?

Thanks,

Vicky
