Is there a schedule on when Microsoft will support GPU-Partitioning / successor of RemoteFX in their Server Products ? The current Server 2022 unfortunately still didn't support this feature and so since Server 2016 there is no replacement for GPU-Partitioning. I cannot get why you can share every hardware resource except for the GPU in a virtual environment. Especially because GPUs are made for massive parallel computation.

The strange thing is that GPU-P works in Server 2019 but not in Server 2022.
I hope this is an issue that will be fixed in an upcoming patch.
The functionality, however, is undocumented.

It's for Windows 10 but will work in Server 2019 too. The only difference is you'll see a Virtual Render Device under Device Manager --> Display Adapters in the guest VM in Server 2019 as host, meanwhile in Win10 as host you'll se the name of the real host's GPU

Does this really work in Server 2019 ? I've not seen any evidence yet, only in Windows 10. So I've upgraded to Server 2022 because i was hoping it's pretty close to the Windows 10 Version in the examples. Imo this feature might also be intentionally disabled to push the azure gpu machines.

My tests are with:

Server 2022 Host

GPU 1050Ti passthrough to guests for tests

AMD Processor (EPYC)

Nested virtualization for all the next tests (guest vms)

Results:

Win 10 --> Win 10

Correct GPU in Display Adapters: 1050 Ti (this is good)

GPU-Z don't recognize the GPU

Stress test show the correct GPU: 1050Ti

I think this will work good for all softwares beacause it display the correct GPU in display adapters

Server 2019 --> Win 10

Virtual Render Device in Display Adapters (this is good but not so good)

GPU-Z don't recognize the GPU

Stress test show the correct GPU: 1050Ti

Seems working but I don't think with all softwares

Server 2022 --> Win 10

No Virtual Render Device in Display Adapters (very bad)

Only the 2 Other Devices

No GPU

Using VM Version 9.0 and 10

Conclusions:
Something is missing in Server2022 to make it working correctly or, like your saying is disabled to push the azure gpu.

Regarding Server 2019 I'm having troubles with GPU.

Get-VMPartitionableGpu returns my GPU correctly and I can add successfully the Adapter, but when i start the VM up i get:

GPU Partition (ID istanza BD97EC02-DDED-458D-858F-28E871097571): impossibile eseguire l'accensione, errore 'Risorse di sistema insufficienti per completare il servizio richiesto.' (0x800705AA). (ID macchina virtuale 941133F9-20EF-4FAF-B5B7-3496E0444CEC)

For not Italian: It means that my server hasn't the enough resources.

My server has 32GB of RAM and Xeon E3-1230 v6

Any hints?

Hi, try to create this two keys on regedit:

Registry key path (create it if not present): HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\HyperV

Registry values:
RequireSecureDeviceAssignment = 0 (REG_DWORD)
RequireSupportedDeviceAssignment = 0 (REG_DWORD)

Did you have a look at Discrete Device Assignment (DDA) which has been out for some years now, you can use this for GPU pass-through:

Hi,
that is obviously not what i want - are you serious ?
If I'm in a virtual environment then i usually don't want to exclusively assign a resource to a single VM. I cannot imagine a realistic scenario why someone want to do that.

I'm afraid this is the only supported option available for Hyper-V right now, there haven't been any news related to GPU-P (GPU partitioning) in quite some time.
