Shared folder - recipient can't move files

I have shared a SharePoint folder with someone using an "Anyone with the link can edit" link. They can access the folder but can't move any of the files within it. The link settings show "Can edit". When they try and move anything they get the following error: 'Unauthorized access: user has no ViewVersions permissions on the source item'. What am I doing wrong?

    Dear Lucie Lang,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

We are sorry to hear that you’re having trouble with recipient can't move files. I deeply understand the inconvenience caused and apologize for it.

When you give users edit permission via "Anyone with the link can edit" link they will not be able to move files. For this you will need to grant custom permission or higher-level permission like full Control. Like shown in the below steps:

    1. Open your web browser and go to the SharePoint site where the folder is located.
    2. Browse to the document library containing the folder and find the specific folder you want to assign permissions to.
    3. Click on the folder to select it, then click on the "..." (ellipsis) or right-click on the folder and select "Manage Access" or "Details".
    4. In the "Manage Access" pane, click on "Advanced" to open the advanced permissions settings.
    5. Click on "Stop Inheriting Permissions" to allow setting unique permissions for the folder.
    6. Click on "Grant Permissions", enter the names or email addresses of the users or groups you want to assign full control to, click on "Show Options", and select "Full Control" from the permission level dropdown.
    7. Optionally, send an email invitation to the users or groups you are granting permissions to, then click "Share" or "OK" to apply the changes.
    8. Verify that the users or groups now have full control permissions by checking the permissions list.

If the recipient is an external user, then you need to add him first as guest user and then assign the full control permission.

We appreciate your understanding that sometimes the initial response may not resolve the problem immediately. However, we can work together to narrow down and resolve the situation. So, please let me know if you have any further questions or if there are any misunderstandings.

Once again, I apologize for the inconvenience this has caused. We appreciate your patience and understanding and thank you for your time and cooperation.

    Sincerely,

Ralph Chawatama | Microsoft Community Moderator
