difference between C:\Users\user\OneDrive\Documents and https://d.docs.live.net

I'm a little stumped by the following scenario.

Have several Excell files, which are saved to OneDrive from my PC. The files are pinned to the taskbar, so no problems opening and saving. Data is added to all of them once a day. All ok so far

I had assumed that on the PC the folder C:\Users\user\OneDrive\Documents\Excell files are the same. However, they are not. They show a date other than the files saved. If I open it, it will be an older fie. Once closed, the is saved (automatically).

If the same file is opened from the taskbar link, it will be the older file. Luckily, since file history is turned on, can get to correct one back - which has the same date as the other. Very confusing

Hi, vienna10

Thanks for posting in the community.

I realize you're confused about the difference between C:\Users\user\OneDrive\Documents and https://d.docs.live.net, and I understand how you feel.

First, let me explain the difference between C:\Users\user\OneDrive\Documents and https://d.docs.live.net.

  1. C:\Users\user\OneDrive\Documents is the local OneDrive folder on your computer. This folder will be synchronized with OneDrive cloud, so the files you save in this folder will be automatically uploaded to OneDrive cloud.
  2. https://d.docs.live.net is a URL address of OneDrive cloud. When you access OneDrive through a browser, you will see this address. This address points to the files you store in OneDrive cloud.

The problem you are experiencing may be caused by synchronization delays or cache issues. Here are some possible solutions:

  • Check the sync status: Make sure the OneDrive application is running and the folder sync status is up to date. You can click the OneDrive icon in the taskbar to check the sync status.
  • Refresh the folder: In File Explorer, right-click the OneDrive folder and select "Refresh" to make sure the folder shows the latest content.

Finally, because of the above possibilities, it is best to open your files in the same way to ensure that they do not overwrite each other.

Please feel free to let me know how it goes.

    Hi Zain,

thank you for the quick reply. This makes perfect sense. Just realized that OneDrive wasn't actually turned on. Once turned on, all files synced immediately.

Stated using OneDrive only a short while ago. Therefore I'm not familiar with all ins and outs.

    Thanks again
