I cannot complete product key activation as it insists on setting up recurring payment but then advises it cannot process payment. I have double checked card details, funds on account and tried adding 2 different payment cards but it still fails to update and process payment and therefore I cannot complete activation. This is for 1 year personal use Office 365.

    Hi Helen,

Thank you for bringing this up. I’m Adrian, an independent Windows advisor. You're not alone in this, and I’ll do everything I can to get you through it.

As a fellow member of the Microsoft community, I want to help as much as I can. However, please note that I don’t have access to Microsoft’s internal billing systems and account details. However, I can guide you on how you can successfully process your Office 365 payment issues.

Before we try workarounds or alternate activation methods, I’ll need to ask a few questions so we can figure out the root of this issue.

    1. Which country or region is your Microsoft account registered under?
    2. Are you activating through the Office website or using the Microsoft Store app?
    3. Is your Microsoft account already linked to any other Microsoft 365 subscription (past or active)?
    4. Have you tried using a different browser or a private/incognito window when redeeming the key?
    5. What’s the exact error message you receive when it fails to set up the payment?

Once I have this info, I’ll guide you with a method to help you complete your setup.

You’re doing the right thing reaching out, and I’ll stay with you until your Office is fully activated and working.

    Best regards,
    Adrian A
