A collaborative workspace app in Microsoft 365 designed to help teams co-create, stay organized, and work together in real time across apps and devices.
Dear @Whitney Makoski,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A Community.
You're correct in your observation: unlike OneNote, Microsoft Loop pages do not currently have a built-in, inline calculator feature that automatically performs simple arithmetic like 1+1= and displays the result directly in the text. While OneNote offers this unique capability for quick calculations within its free-form notes, Loop's design serves a different primary purpose.
Microsoft Loop is engineered for collaborative content creation and organizing information through flexible components (such as paragraphs, tables, task lists, and progress trackers), with a strong focus on real-time co-authoring. While it excels at structuring and sharing dynamic content, direct inline mathematical evaluation is not a core feature at this time.
If you need to include calculations in your Loop pages, consider these alternatives:
1.Use Loop Tables for Calculations:
- This is the primary method for arithmetic within Loop. If your data is structured, you can create a table and use formulas within its cells, similar to a simplified Excel spreadsheet.
- Type /table to insert a table.
- Once the table is inserted, you can type an = sign in a cell and use basic formulas (e.g., =SUM(C2:C5), =A1*B1, =AVERAGE(ColumnName)).
- Loop tables also feature a "Summary row" option that can automatically calculate sums, averages, counts, etc., for columns.
2.Copy and Paste from an External Calculator:
For quick, isolated calculations, you can perform the math in a separate application (like your computer's Calculator app, or even a web search engine) and then simply paste the result into your Loop page.
3.Consider Integrations (Future/External):
While not an inline feature, for more complex data and calculations within a collaborative environment, you might explore embedding an Excel workbook directly into your Loop page or utilizing other features that integrate with Excel.
4.Providing Feedback to Microsoft
Microsoft Loop is still evolving, and features are added based on user demand and product development vision. If an inline calculation feature like OneNote's would be valuable to your workflow in Loop, I highly recommend submitting feedback directly to Microsoft. User feedback is crucial in guiding the development of new features: You can visit the Ideas · Community to submit a new idea or upvote existing ones.
I hope this clarifies the current capabilities and provides effective solutions for your needs within Microsoft Loop. Please feel free to reach out if you have any further questions or require additional assistance.
