For the red screen, see https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/the-surface-pro-3-startup-screen-is-red-1ae3db8d-933b-a722-0e30-6bbc1648f014

For the keyboard issue, this may be a hardware issue on the SP3 (which is no longer supported by Microsoft).

You stated that "I've loaded multiple versions of Windows. Original Windows 8, Windows 10 and Windows 11" - Windows 11 was never supported on this device. What did you do to install it? You should be only reimaging with the Windows 10 official downloadable Surface Pro 3 recovery image (and you'll need to arrange for the extended security update support).

Again, this device is not longer supported by Microsoft. It's 11 years old. You should consider replacing it.

Followed your instructions to fix the 'Red screen' at startup, but it's still shows as red. And the keyboard is still not detected. I have purchased 2 additional Surface devices this week. Hopefully they will perform as well as this one has and for as long. Thanks for your insight and help with this matter. I guess I should just be happy it's lasted as long as it has. And I am.

The BIOS is "wrong" or incorrect because although it is accessible with volume up button and does boot, it has a red background at the surface splash screen. Also it used to flash the type C keyboard backlight to acknowledge detection it stopped doing that. I've tried another good type C keyboard as well. Surface Pro 3 - Serial# 026126453153 Loaded BIOS-American Megatrends Inc 3.11.2650 04/30/2019 DOES NOT DETECT KETBOARD. Your hep resolving this is appreciated. Thanks.

Hello Calvin Powell, welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

I understand you want to change the BIOS of your Surface Pro 3 device. For me to understand the situation completely and help you best, could you please give me a few more deatils?

    • What exactly makes you think the BIOS is "wrong" or incorrect?
    • Can you access the BIOS/UEFI settings? (Hold Volume Up while pressing/releasing the Power button during boot.) If yes, what's the current Firmware version shown there?
    • When did this issue start, and was it after any updates, resets, or repairs?
    • What's your current Windows version/build? (Check in Settings > System > About.)

I’ll wait for your reply with the requested details so we can continue.
