I used stand-alone Excel for many years. I'm now using it in the Microsoft 365 package. Normally, hovering the cursor at the top of a column, or the corner of a cell, or a cell border causes the cursor to change to accomplish various other tasks; ie, widen the column, copy, fill, etc. My cursor will do this, but it's so finicky as to be worthless. I wind up doing everything manually because it is quicker.

    Hello!

I'm Yasllame. I'm happy to help and clarify.

This behavior in Microsoft 365 Excel is usually related to interface settings, display scale, or performance, not to a removal of cursor functionality.

    What to try:

    Adjust the Windows scaling

    Settings > System > Display

Set Scale to 100% or 125% (test which one works best)

    Restart Excel after the change

    Check Excel zoom

Use 100% zoom (bottom right corner)

    Disable graphics acceleration

    Excel > File > Options > Advanced

    Check Disable hardware graphics acceleration

    Close and reopen Excel

Test another mouse or adjust sensitivity

Especially if you are using a touchpad or high-precision mouse

Confirm you are using Excel Desktop

Excel on the web has different and more limited cursor behavior

    Important to know:

Cursor functions have not been removed in Microsoft 365.

The imprecision is almost always related to scaling/DPI or graphics rendering.

After adjustment, the behavior returns to being consistent.

I hope this information has been helpful! If you need anything else, I'm here.

    Sincerely,

It sounds like you are experiencing issues with the cursor behavior in Excel for the web, especially when trying to perform tasks like resizing columns or filling cells. In Excel for the web, the cursor should change when you hover over specific areas, such as the edges of columns or cells, allowing you to perform actions like widening a column or copying data. If the cursor is not responding as expected, it could be due to several factors, including browser compatibility, settings, or even the performance of your internet connection.

Here are a few suggestions to improve your experience:

    1. Check Browser Compatibility: Ensure you are using a supported browser for Excel for the web. Sometimes, certain features may not work correctly in unsupported browsers.
    2. Clear Browser Cache: Clearing your browser's cache can help resolve issues related to cursor behavior and overall performance.
    3. Disable Browser Extensions: Some browser extensions can interfere with web applications. Try disabling them to see if that resolves the issue.
    4. Update Your Browser: Make sure your browser is up to date, as updates can fix bugs and improve performance.
    5. Try a Different Browser: If the issue persists, try accessing Excel for the web using a different browser to see if the problem is specific to the one you are currently using.

If none of these solutions work, you may want to consider reaching out to Microsoft support for further assistance.
