I was setting up a new Lenovo laptop and installed One drive on my phone to transfer my files. Documents are there but I can't open.

I was given the option in set up to use Microsoft Player or Note. I chose Microsoft Player but still couldn't open. I was getting a "cannot support" message. I uninstalled Microsoft Player but when I try to open a file it is still defaulting to Microsoft Player.

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

To help narrow down the issue:

    1. What is the file type? Is it .docx, .pdf, .txt, or something else?
    2. When you double-click the file, what exact error message do you see?
    3. Are the files fully downloaded from OneDrive, or do they show a cloud icon?

It sounds like Windows is still using Microsoft Player as the default app, even after uninstalling it.

    Please try this:

    • Right-click one of the files
    • Click Open with > Choose another app
    • Select Word / Notepad / PDF Reader (depending on the file)
    • Check Always use this app
    • Click OK

Also, just to double-check, open Settings > Apps > Default apps and check if Microsoft Player is still set there.

If the issue persists, please provide more details by answering my questions.

It sounds like you're experiencing issues opening files on your new Lenovo laptop after transferring them via OneDrive. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem:

    1. Check Default Apps: Ensure that the correct application is set as the default for opening the file types you are trying to access. You can do this by going to Settings > Apps > Default apps and selecting the appropriate application for the file type.
    2. Repair Office Applications: If you are using Microsoft Office to open documents, you might want to repair the Office installation. You can do this by going to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features, selecting Microsoft Office, and then choosing the repair option.
    3. Delete Office Document Cache: Sometimes, clearing the Office Document Cache can help resolve opening issues. You can find instructions on how to delete the cache in the Microsoft support documentation.
    4. Check for File Compatibility: Ensure that the files you are trying to open are compatible with the applications you have installed. If the files are in a format that is not supported by the application, you will encounter issues.
    5. Update Windows and Office: Make sure that both your Windows operating system and Microsoft Office applications are up to date, as updates can fix bugs and improve compatibility.

If you continue to have issues, you may want to check the specific error messages you are receiving for more targeted troubleshooting steps.
