Building and customizing solutions using Microsoft 365 Copilot APIs and tools
Follow these steps to get Copilot to appear in Outlook after moving to Microsoft 365:
- Confirm the correct account and license
- In Outlook, go to File > Office Account (or Account).
- Check the account shown at the top. It must be the account that has an active Copilot license (for home: Microsoft 365 Personal/Family with Copilot Pro; for business: a supported Microsoft 365 plan plus Microsoft 365 Copilot).
- If the wrong account is primary, sign out and sign back in with the Copilot-licensed account.
- Make sure Office 365 is fully updated
- In any Microsoft 365 app, go to File > Account > Update Options > Update Now to install the latest build.
- Refresh the license
- In any Microsoft 365 app, go to File > Account.
- Select Update License.
- Close Outlook and all other Office apps, then reopen Outlook and check for the Copilot button on the Home tab.
- Check privacy settings (Windows)
- In Outlook (or another Office app), go to File > Account.
- Under Account Privacy, select Manage Settings.
- Turn on Experiences that analyze your content.
- Scroll down and turn on All connected experiences.
- Restart Outlook.
- If using a business/enterprise subscription, verify update channel
- In File > Account, under Product Information, check the update channel.
- If it shows Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel, Copilot features are not available. The device must be moved to Current Channel or Monthly Enterprise Channel by the organization’s IT/admin.
If Copilot is still missing after these steps, contact the Microsoft 365 admin (for work/school) to confirm that a Copilot-supported license is assigned and that Copilot is not blocked by organizational policies.
