On a Lenovo laptop, usually option 1 or 2 below should resolve the problem with the webcam.

    1

Look at the function keys (F1 - F12) on your keyboard, if one of them has a camera icon, press that key or Fn + that key to unlock the webcam.

    2

If that was not the problem, look at the camera lens above your screen, is there a small privacy slider that needs to be opened to access the webcam?

    3

If the webcam is still not working, go to the support page for your laptop on the Lenovo website, then from there, download and re-install the version of webcam drivers they provide.

If you have any difficulty locating that support page, click your Start Button, then just type msinfo and press Enter, please provide a screenshot of the resulting System Information window.

Try these steps in order on the Lenovo laptop running Windows 11:

    1. Test if the camera works at all
      1. Select Start > Camera.
      2. If the preview works here but not in other apps, the problem is with those apps’ settings.
    2. Check Windows privacy settings for the camera
      1. Select Start > Settings > Privacy > Camera.
      2. Under Allow access to the camera on this device, select Change and turn Camera access for this device On.
      3. Make sure Allow apps to access your camera is On.
      4. Under Choose which Microsoft Store apps can access your camera, turn On the apps that should use the camera.
      5. Scroll down to Allow desktop apps to access your camera and turn this On so browsers and apps like Teams can use it.
    3. Make sure no other app is blocking the camera
      1. Close all apps that might be using the camera.
      2. Right‑click the taskbar, select Task Manager.
      3. End any app that might still be using the camera, then try again.
    4. Update Windows and camera drivers
      1. Select Start > Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates.
      2. If available, go to Advanced options > Optional updates and install any camera or driver updates.
      3. Restart the PC from Start > Power > Restart (do not just wake from sleep).
      4. If the camera still fails, open Start > Device Manager.
        • Expand Cameras.
        • Right‑click the Lenovo camera > Update driver > Search automatically for drivers.
        • Restart after the update.
    5. Run the Camera troubleshooter
      1. Select Start > Settings > System.
      2. Select Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
      3. Find Camera and select Run.
    6. Check antivirus/security software
      1. Open the antivirus or firewall app from Start.
      2. Look for any camera/webcam protection feature and temporarily disable it.
      3. Test the camera again. Re‑enable protection afterward.
    7. If the screen is black or image quality is poor
      1. Ensure the physical camera shutter/slider on the Lenovo bezel is open.
      2. Clean the camera lens.
      3. If the preview is black in all apps even after driver and Windows updates, the camera hardware may be faulty and may need Lenovo support.

If a specific error code appears (for example 0xA00F4294, 0x800705AA, 0x80070490, etc.), the same steps above apply: update drivers via Device Manager, install Windows/optional updates, run the camera troubleshooter, and check security software.
