Latest Windows Update Causing Stuttering

LG Electronics Inc. - Extension - 1.1.2024.313 (Windows Update). Ever since this installed today I have stuttering in Assassins Creed: Valhalla where there was none before. When I look at the fps graph in the option menu I can see sporadic dips going from 90-44 fps and it's driving me mad.

Can anyone please tell me how to uninstall or remove it? In update history it is listed but there is no option to uninstall (Learn more is all I get). Can I manually delete files to get rid of it? I tried re-installing my GPU drivers (AMD) with DDU uninstaller but the issue persists.

I've tried asking LG but they said it's a Windows thing.

Thanks.

Hi, thank you for replying. If you feel that this is with regard to the recent upgrade, what I can highly suggest is to post the issue on the feedback hub so that developers will also be aware of this problem, and hopefully, the fix will apply as soon as possible.

    Hi H0ngK0ngPh00ey,

Thank you for sharing the details of your experience. Based on the timing, the stuttering you’re seeing appears to coincide with the installation of the LG Electronics Inc. - Extension driver delivered through Windows Update.

This type of update is a device driver extension, commonly associated with monitor communication (such as display signaling or feature support). These extensions are managed by Windows and, by design, do not always include a standard uninstall option in Update History.

Here are some available solutions and workarounds that you can try:

1, Remove or roll back the LG monitor driver

    • Right‑click Start > Device Manager
    • Expand Monitors
    • Right‑click your LG monitor > Properties
    • Open the Driver tab
    • Select Roll Back Driver (if available), then restart
    • If Roll Back is unavailable, choose Uninstall device
    • Check “Attempt to remove the driver for this device” and restart

2, Use a generic monitor driver

    • In Device Manager > Monitors, right‑click the LG monitor
    • Select Update driver > Browse my computer
    • Choose Let me pick
    • Select Generic PnP Monitor
    • Restart and test performance

3, Prevent the update from reinstalling - Use the Show or Hide Updates tool to block the LG driver extension from being automatically reinstalled by Windows Update.

Let me know if you need further assistance, feel free to ask me by clicking "Add Comment" or "Add Answer" if you cannot add comment so your response will be visible. Thanks for your effort.

Hi, I'm Bernard, a fellow Windows user. I'm happy to help!

Based on your inputs, it seems that there is an incompatibility with the driver. In addition, can you please check the System logs on the PC so I can further examine the root cause of the issue?

To share the System logs, please follow the steps in the link below:

Press the Windows key + X, then select "Event Viewer"

Click the drop-down of "Windows logs"

Right-click System > click Filter Current logs > Check: Critical, Warning, and Error > Hit OK

On the right pane, click "Save Filtered Log File As..."

Save the System logs file to your desktop and share it by following the steps from the link:

Note: You can also use your preferred cloud storage to upload and share the logs.

LG or other OEM extension/driver updates delivered through Windows Update generally cannot be safely removed by manually deleting files. Use supported rollback options only.

    1. Try uninstalling the update via Settings
      1. Open Settings > Windows Update.
      2. Select Update history.
      3. Select Uninstall updates.
      4. Look for an entry that matches the LG extension (or any update installed on the same date) and select Uninstall if available.
Note: Some updates, especially certain drivers/firmware or extension updates, cannot be uninstalled. In that case, Windows will not show an Uninstall button.
    2. If the update cannot be uninstalled If there is no uninstall option for that LG extension, do not try to manually delete its files. Instead, use a system-level rollback:
      • Use System Restore (if a restore point exists from before the update) to revert the system state.
      • If stuttering persists or restore is not available, use Reset this PC with Keep my files to reinstall Windows while preserving personal files. This removes drivers, apps, and settings that may be causing issues.
For a reset with files kept:
      1. Go to Settings > System > Recovery.
      2. Under Recovery options, select Reset PC.
      3. Choose Keep my files and follow the prompts.
    3. Avoid manual file deletion Manually deleting driver or extension files can leave the system in an inconsistent state and may worsen performance or stability. Use only the supported uninstall/rollback/reset mechanisms.
    4. If the problem started exactly after the update After trying the above, if the stutter remains, also consider that the issue might be related to a different update (e.g., a cumulative Windows update) installed at the same time. Use Uninstall updates to remove any recent updates that do offer an uninstall option, testing the game after each removal.

If none of these options resolve the issue, a full clean reinstall of Windows and the latest OEM drivers (including LG and AMD) is the most reliable way to eliminate driver/extension conflicts.
