To switch from the Microsoft 365 Family subscription to the Personal subscription is switching to a version with fewer features, and so the only way to do that is to cancel the Family subscription first, then take out a new Microsoft 365 Personal subscription, that is explained on this link in the 'Switch to a Microsoft 365 subscription with fewer features' section

On this link are the check your eligibility for a refund and cancel the Microsoft 365 Family subscription.

To change from Microsoft 365 Family to an individual (Personal) subscription, use the same Microsoft account and switch plans in account settings.

    1. Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services and sign in with the Microsoft account that currently has Microsoft 365 Family.
    2. Find the Microsoft 365 Family subscription and select Manage.
    3. If available, use Change or Switch to move to a different Microsoft 365 plan (for home subscriptions this means switching between Microsoft 365 Personal and Microsoft 365 Family/Premium). Follow the prompts to choose Microsoft 365 Personal and confirm.
    4. If there is no direct switch option, cancel/don’t renew Family and then purchase Microsoft 365 Personal using the same Microsoft account. When switching to a subscription with fewer features, remaining time can be extended on the new plan, but sharing will no longer be available and only one user can use the subscription.

Key differences when moving from Family to Personal:

    • Family can be shared with up to six people; Personal is for one person only.
    • OneDrive storage per user stays the same; only the number of users changes.
    • Skype minutes per user stay the same; only the number of users changes.

If the subscription was purchased through a third-party (for example Apple App Store, Google Play, or a retail partner), subscription changes (including switching plans) must be managed through that billing partner as described at https://account.microsoft.com/services under Manage.
