The error means the Xbox code was issued for a different country/region than the one set on the Microsoft/Xbox account or console, so it cannot be redeemed as-is.
For Xbox Series S, only codes that match the account/console region will work. Changing the region just to use a third‑party key can affect subscriptions, billing, and access to content, and region‑locked digital goods may still not work outside their licensed territory.
The supported options are:
- Check and (if appropriate) change Xbox console/account region
- On Xbox Series S:
- Sign in to the Xbox console.
- Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
- Go to Profile & system > Settings > System > Language & location.
- Under Location, select the country/region that matches the code.
- Restart the console.
- Also ensure the Microsoft account region matches, if needed:
- Go to the Your info page of the Microsoft account dashboard.
- Select Edit profile info.
- Choose the correct Country or region and save.
- On Xbox Series S:
- Work with the seller for a replacement or refund
- If the code is for the wrong region and changing the account/console region is not desired or does not resolve the issue, contact the retailer (G2A) and request either:
- A key for the correct region, or
- A refund, since the product is not usable in the current region.
- If the code is for the wrong region and changing the account/console region is not desired or does not resolve the issue, contact the retailer (G2A) and request either:
- Avoid future region‑mismatch issues
- When buying third‑party keys, always verify that the key’s region matches the Microsoft account/Xbox region before purchase.
If the code remains unusable in the correct region, the only supported path is to resolve it with the retailer that sold the key.
