Hi, thank you for replying. Did it only happen yesterday? If yes, this might be due to an ongoing issue with Outlook.com. If the issue persists, I recommend waiting for Outlook.com to be fully operational again.

Hi, I'm Bernard. I'm happy to help!

Based on the Outlook.com Health Status, there is currently an ongoing service degradation that may cause intermittent sign-in issues, especially for iOS users. This is a known issue, and updates will be provided through the link below.

Under Microsoft consumer products > Show products > click Show Details under Outlook.com

In the meantime, you may do the following steps to receive an email:

    1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
    2. Scroll down and tap on Mail.
    3. Select Accounts under the Mail settings.
    4. Tap on the email account for which you need to re-enter the password.
    5. Tap on Account Settings or directly on the Password field (depending on your iOS version).
    6. Enter the updated or correct password in the Password field.
    7. Tap Done to save the changes.
    8. Open the Mail app to confirm that the account is syncing properly and emails are being sent/received.

Note: This is a public forum. I may respond shortly, but I apologize in advance for any delays. I am simply a fellow user trying to provide helpful insights and information.

On iPhone, the email address being “taken” usually means the account is already added somewhere in the device’s mail settings or in the Outlook app.

Try these steps depending on what app is used:

    1. If using Outlook for iOS
      1. Open Outlook.
      2. Go to Settings > Accounts.
      3. If the email account is still listed, select it and tap Remove Account.
      4. Close Outlook, reopen it, then go back to Settings > Accounts and add the email account again.
    2. If using the built‑in iOS Mail app
      1. Go to iPhone Settings > Mail > Accounts.
      2. If the email account is listed there, tap it and choose Delete Account.
      3. Restart the iPhone.
      4. Go back to Settings > Mail > Accounts > Add Account and add the email again (choose Exchange or Outlook.com as appropriate).

If the account was added as IMAP/POP and there are sync issues, delete it and re‑add it as Exchange or Outlook.com where possible, as this is the recommended configuration for Outlook/Exchange accounts.

If the problem persists even after fully removing the account from both Outlook and iOS Mail, contact Microsoft support or Apple Support as appropriate for additional troubleshooting.
