how can I turn off a hyperlink formatted cell in Excel?

To turn off or remove a hyperlink format from a cell in Excel:

Remove a single hyperlink but keep the text

1. Right-click the cell that contains the hyperlink.
2. Select Remove Hyperlink.

Remove the hyperlink completely (including the text)

1. Select the cell that contains the hyperlink.
2. Press Delete.

If the hyperlink was created with the HYPERLINK function

1. Select the cell.
2. Press Ctrl+C to copy.
3. Right-click the same cell and choose Paste → Values to replace the formula with plain text (no hyperlink).

Turn off automatic creation of hyperlinks going forward (desktop Excel)

1. Select File > Options.
2. Go to Proofing > AutoCorrect Options.
3. On the AutoFormat As You Type tab, clear Internet and network paths with hyperlinks.
