A key that is physically broken off and intermittently acts as if it is being held down is a hardware failure and cannot be reliably fixed with software settings.

    Steps to take:

    1. Inspect and clean
      • Check the keyboard for debris around the broken key.
      • Use compressed air to blow out dust and debris from around the key area, or gently vacuum with a dusting brush as described for stuck/repeating keys.
      • If the key still behaves as if it is held down, treat it as hardware failure.
    2. Confirm it is hardware (optional)
      • Test with an external keyboard. If the external keyboard works normally, the built‑in keyboard is faulty.
    3. Service or replacement
      • For a Surface keyboard or Type Cover with cracked, damaged, or missing keys, the recommended resolution is to submit a service order.
      • Go to the Microsoft device service site, sign in, select or register the keyboard/Surface device, and follow the steps to create a service order.
      • If out of warranty, consider purchasing a replacement keyboard or Type Cover.

There is no supported way in the provided guidance to disable a single broken key; the supported path is repair or replacement when keys are damaged or missing.
