Follow these steps in Windows 11 to unblock the camera:
- Check Windows camera privacy settings
- Select Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Camera.
- Under Camera access, make sure Camera access for this device is On. If it is Off, select Change and turn it On.
- Make sure Let apps access your camera (or Allow apps to access your camera) is turned On.
- Scroll down and turn On camera access for the specific app being used (for Microsoft Store apps).
- For desktop apps (like browsers and many video apps), ensure Let desktop apps access your camera is turned On.
- Test the camera in the Camera app
- Select Start > Camera.
- If prompted to allow access, select Yes.
- If the preview works here but not in another app, adjust that app’s own camera settings.
- Run the camera troubleshooter
- Select Start > Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
- Find Camera and select Run.
- Check antivirus or security software
- Open the antivirus/security app.
- Look for any webcam or camera protection setting and temporarily disable it.
- Test the camera again. Re‑enable protection after testing.
If the message indicates the camera is blocked by policy (for example error 0xA00F4292), and this is a work or school device, contact the IT administrator to change the policy.
Also verify any physical camera shutter or function key (often a key with a camera icon) on the device is not set to block the camera.
