Windows Drivers Missing

So I'm a guitar player and I recently bought a Scarlett Solo 4th Generation Audio Interface to record with. This audio interface needed me to install the associated drivers with it to use the software the device included. I install the drivers and get to playing my guitar with no issues. I then go and grab some Bluetooth headphones to listen to music a little bit later. The day proceeds and I turn off my computer and go to bed. The next week later my Bluetooth drivers are missing and I can't connect my XBOX controller to it. Is there an OFFICIAL download for the Bluetooth drivers? I'm paranoid about downloading possible viruses.

    Hi Grayson Smith,

What you’re seeing usually happens when Windows no longer recognizes or reinitializes the Bluetooth component correctly after a restart or driver change. The driver may not be fully gone, it can be hidden, disabled, or not reloaded properly.

Here are some recommended checking steps that you can try at this point:

    1, Re-detect hidden Bluetooth device

    • Open Device Manager
    • Click View > Show hidden devices
    • Check under Bluetooth / Other devices
    • If you see a greyed-out Bluetooth device, right-click > Uninstall device
    • Then click Action > Scan for hardware changes

2, Use Windows Update driver catalog

    • Go to Settings > Windows Update
    • Select Advanced options > Optional updates
    • Install any Bluetooth-related driver updates

3, Clean reinstall the Bluetooth driver

    • Open Device Manager
    • Right-click Bluetooth (or unknown device) > Uninstall device
    • Check “Delete the driver software” if available
    • Restart your PC

4, Install the official driver from your device manufacturer

    • Identify your laptop or motherboard model
    • Go to the official support website
    • Download the Bluetooth driver for Windows 11
    • Install and restart

5, Verify Bluetooth isn’t disabled at system level

    • Make sure Airplane mode is OFF
    • Check Services (services.msc) - ensure Bluetooth Support Service is running

Bluetooth drivers for Windows 11 are provided either by Windows Update or by the PC/device manufacturer, not as a single generic download from Microsoft.

To get official, safe Bluetooth drivers:

    1. Use Device Manager to update automatically
      1. Select Search on the taskbar, type device manager, and select Device Manager.
      2. Expand Bluetooth and select the Bluetooth adapter name (it may include the word “radio”).
      3. Right‑click the adapter and select Update driver > Search automatically for updated driver software.
      4. Follow the steps, then select Close.
      5. If prompted, select Start > Power > Restart, then test Bluetooth (e.g., Xbox controller pairing).
This uses Windows Update and the Windows driver catalog, which are trusted sources.
    2. If Windows can’t find a driver
      1. Go to the PC manufacturer’s official support website.
      2. Search for the exact PC model and Windows 11.
      3. Download the latest Bluetooth driver listed there.
      4. If it’s an .exe, double‑click it and follow the prompts, then restart.
      5. If it’s a set of files (.inf/.sys):
        • Open Device Manager.
        • Right‑click the Bluetooth adapter (or check Other devices if it’s not under Bluetooth) and select Update driver > Browse my computer for drivers.
        • Select Browse, point to the folder where the driver files were extracted, select OK, then Next and complete the wizard.
        • Restart if prompted.
    3. If Bluetooth disappeared after an upgrade Bluetooth drivers and some third‑party Bluetooth components are not always migrated across major upgrades. In that case, reinstalling the OEM Bluetooth driver from the PC manufacturer’s site is the supported method.

Using Windows Update and the official PC manufacturer support site avoids untrusted third‑party driver download sites and minimizes malware risk.
