When I copy something, I cannot paste it

While I am using word, typing to create a document, when I copy something, I cannot paste it

Do you see any error messages? Or is it just that nothing happens when you try to paste?

Are objects and text affected equally? For example, can you paste copied text into another program, such as Notepad?
